If you set the route start, transit & end point to points that you previously used for a route calculation & the route has the same configuration, then the route will be loaded from cache and you can view it offline too. All routes are cached on the device for 7 days.
To calculate a new route you need an Internet connection.
The other maps have the ability to calculate new routes offline. It makes them very useful when you don't have an Internet connection and want to find a route. Sorry, but this issue makes this map almost useless for me. All I can use it for - download and then scroll map just for fun.
1. The road vectors are not on the device. Downloaded maps are just picture tiles. Therefore there is no data (yet) on the device to calculate routing.
2. The Google search index is likely multiple peta (or exa) bytes. So search index will not fit in a single machine. A very limited local POI list would be possible, but I usually go for Google for anything more complex.
Other than these points, this would be great. Just seems very unlikely to me.
So, if this is difficult, at least enable intuitive and workable (so not through the cache) loading and saving of routes. This would be the next best thing. Since this feature is the most requested of all features, why not at least implement the next best thing?
I know you can't search map tiles themselves, but there must be an OSM API that would be able to download street and city names for caches tiles. so when you download a map, you would also download the searchable content too. Just a thought.

Offline search would be awesome too.
Sure, put it up as an idea and let's vote it up.
Done. Now offline search is a new idea!
That would be awesome!
Still waiting for Offline search, or this app is truly uselless!!
Please vote for offline search as well! Thanks!
You can make offline routing like in TrueMaps app.
Hallo
It would be good to be able to put a pre-configured route as a fox onto the device and use this as routing info.
You should consider two things.
